Christine Langlois

I’m an award-winning writer, editor and book author with broad experience in national consumer magazines, corporate and government publications.

As a journalist, I write feature articles for national consumer magazines. Most recently, I won a Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada/Canadian Foundation for Women’s Health Journalism Award honourable mention for a 2012 More piece on ovarian cancer and I have two National Magazine Award honourable mentions for Cottage Life articles.

For my work, I’ve traveled throughout Canada and internationally. I’ve gone by overnight train to China’s remote Gansu province to visit schools built with funds raised by Canadian schoolchildren through Free the Children. I’ve interviewed Leonard Cohen in the kitchen of his Montreal home, mushers running the Yukon Quest, and a cardiac surgeon as he performed open-heart surgery in a Hamilton Ont., hospital.

I have experience writing, editing and managing projects that include web content, articles, brochures, white papers, discussion papers, annual reports, profiles, case studies, how-tos, books, book chapters, opinion pieces, speeches, employee newsletters, press releases, media kits etc. Currently, I am senior communications consultant at Insurance Bureau of Canada.

As a provider of communications services for corporate and government clients, my work includes:

  • writing
  • structural, line and copy editing
  • project management

As both a communicator and journalist, my specialty is health and medical subjects. I’ve had cover stories in both Reader’s Digest Canada and Best Health magazine on women’s heart health. I have worked as health editor at Canadian Living magazine. I am the author of Healthy Together: A Couple’s Guide to Midlife Wellness, published by McGraw Hill and the editor of a series of bestselling Canadian Living child health and parenting books published by Ballantine. On the communications side, I was lead writer on the Canadian Paediatric Society 400-page guide, Well Beings: A Guide to Health in Child Care.

As a project manager, I’ve created and directed teams of writers, editors, expert panels and designers to handle multi-phased projects that are always completed on time and on budget.

I also tackle other subject areas frequently. I recently wrote a woodworking article for Cottage Life on building window trim and a major feature forReader’s Digest on the need for pension reform.

To promote my work and the organizations that have published it, I’ve given speeches, done cross-country book tours, and made numerous radio and television appearances. Most recently, I appeared on Canada AM and Breakfast Television to talk about a story I wrote for Reader’s Digest.

I live in Toronto with my husband; we have two adult children. I work from a home office in the city and at our solar-powered, off-the-grid, boat-access cottage in eastern Kawarthas.
